Description
Harmonious and balanced, spacious and bright cellar, considered the most singular work of Cèsar Martinell and recognized in 2007 as one of the Seven Wonders of Catalonia.
Projected on the initiative of the Agricultural Cooperation Union of Gandesa, and built thanks to the efforts of a series of families of the people who wanted to fight for a better future linked to peasantry and local viticulture.
It is a cathedral of the wine without a basilica plant, without symmetrical distribution and without a single main façade. Its exterior mainly consists of a plastered and painted finish of white, which strengthens the brick sockets and outlines of doors and windows, green glazed tiles of the walls and the power of the fascinating water tanks that crown the building. The cover, with shapes that emulate barrels and amphorae (or egg shells), represents its most striking element.
A winery that today can speak of several chapters of history and life lived since its construction, and in which there have been historical moments of all kinds and that have conditioned its operation.
Despite all this, in all these years, a history of overcoming and struggling to keep alive the effort and the legacy of many generations of people predominates. The history of a people, of people who have traditionally been devoted to land and that has made their own concepts such as collective work and value.
