World Heritage Poblet

Poblet represents an impressive architectural ensemble, and the worlds largest inhabited the Cistercian monastery. It still contains almost all the buildings that this Order, full of vitality, built under the protection of the Catalan-Aragonese Crown according to their needs; and especially since King Alfons el Cast (1157-1196) chose the monastery as the resting place of his dynasty. Poblet is the largest monastery on the route of the Cistercians and the only one of the two monasteries still inhabited. In 1991, the monastery was declared a World Heritage Site.
