THE WINE CASTLE OF FALSET

On top of a hill overlooking the village of Falset lies the castle of the Counts of Prades, a fortress that has suffered periodic destruction throughout history. The building now houses a wine interpretation center. "Rather than interpreeting wine, I prefer to drink it," says one of the protagonists of the paisatgesdelvi.com audio guide that takes us here. Even if you think alike, you can not forget that wine is science, dexterity and art. And a legacy of the Costa Daurada (Golden Coast).
The interactive games and audiovisuals of the Wine Castle put everybody, both adults and children, in situation. The history of wine making in these lands is closely linked to the abrupt orography and the idiosyncrasy of its inhabitants. From an audiovisual balcony - a spectacular video production - you can see the vineyards and the beautiful villages of the Priorat region. And if you put your noses in the spheres of the aromas of the Wine Castle, you will recognize the basic properties of the wine of the Priorat in each inhalation. It is a sensory game that even children can taste. Through the interactive screens you can also travel virtually with your kids through a region that you will later travel inch by inch.

THE PARTICULAR TASTE OF THE LLICORELLA

The region has very singular landscapes, in which the vines dominate a mountainous territory where the crop is quite difficult. Llicorella, the local name given to the slate, is the stone defining personality of the wines that grow in these lands. In Torroja del Priorat there is a restaurant, Cal Joc, where they sell attractive jewels made with llicorella.

The center of the village of Falset and Quartera Square deserve a walk with the family and a glass of wine with the denomination of origin in some corner. As soon as you ask, you establish contact with an occasional winemaker who will explain in detail the thousand virtues of the grape cultivated in this region. What an immense pleasure to listen with a drink in your hands!

Howsever, with regard to exciting excursions, how about doing a segway walk between vineyards? Do not suffer, this device has traction on both wheels and above it, you will have the feeling of levitation.

Another very unique stop in the Priorat region is the Saó del Coster winery, in Gratallops. Fredi Torres, a Swiss of Galician origin, cultivates the strains as it was done centuries ago. His admirable respect for the land makes him  cultivate the vineyards according to the norms of biodynamics. Even with the help of a donkey that, with effort, turns the wine obtained from these coastal in a true miracle of nature.

SiuranaSiurana

VISITS FROM SIURANA TO THE MONTSANT

If Falset has aromas of wine, Siurana is inseparably associated with another much appreciated liquid: oil. From the capital of the Priorat region you can arrive in almost an hour by car. When you have the feeling that you cannot take another turn, you find Siurana Castle, famous for being the last territory of Catalonia conquered by the Saracens.

This village of only 21 registered inhabitants offers such breathtaking views: a 360 degree view, Siurana swamp at the foot, the Prades mountains to the east, and the Montsant and its valley to the west. And if the sky is clear, stop for a few minutes. Forget everything and watch as the sun grows as it hides with the filter of the gases of the atmosphere.

Legend has it that when the Muslim Queen saw that the Christians were taking Siurana, she took the white horse, covered her eyes and threw herself off the rocks. In fact, there is still the footprint of the horseshoe marked on the rock. Can you imagine the scene during sunset?
