If you regret having left the summer behind, the Fiestas de Misericordia de Reus festivities will make you enter the fall with in a much better mood.The patron saint of the city motivates the second large feast in Reus, full of proposals for everybody. It is celebrated around Septenber, 25, and the inhabitants of Tarragona and the Costa Daurada (Golden Coast) are involved every year.

Tradition is the axis of the feast. On the eve of the Diada de Misericordia, the Rosario de Antorchas (Torches Rosary) is celebrated, with hundreds of individuals ending up venerating God´s Mother. It is the central act of a celebration that has thousands of shapes and colors. Dance with old clothes in the 'Correfoc', notice how your whole body shakes in meetings of trabucaires shooting their guns into the air and sing at full lung in the concerts of Plaza del Mercadal square and in the stages scattered throughout the city. THE FEAST WITH KIDS

With kids, With creatures, you cannot miss the Matí Gegant, where you will see all the 'colles geganteres' – groups of giants - of the city and the main of Tarragona. And for the elderly, around 7 pm, there is the pasacalles del Masclet. Do not get confused, the name does not refer to firecrackers, but to the official drink of the holidays: vermouth that has been elaborated since 2001, specially designed to drink on the street and together with friends, and known and unknown individuals. THE MODERNIST JEWELS OF REUS

With so much party, do not lose sight that you are in one of the cradles of the Catalan modernism. There are 26 noted buildings, and probably those of the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner are the most photographed. The Pere Mata Institute, designed as a psychiatric hospital, stands out for its richness in ornaments. The construction formed by pavilions is sure to remind you of something ... Well, yes, it is the precedent of the Sant Pau Hospital in Barcelona, a creation of the same architect.

CASA NAVA, PRACTICALLY INTACT

You should also not miss Casa Navàs, which the architect designed for a family. The care of its owners has kept it practically intact since 1907. It is impressive to observe the ceramics, mosaics, stone works and stained glass of this house with care, extraordinary examples of the decorative arts of Modernism. The shop open on the ground floor, still retains the original furniture and structure. Do not miss it!

THE GAUDÍ CENTER, A MANDATORY VISIT OF THE MODERNISM IN REUS

Now, to make a good immersion into the modernist universe, few experiences catch the children as much as the visit to the the Gaudí Centre, an entire building dedicated to Antoni Gaudí, the genius born in. Review the Gaudian forms and creations with your hands, enter the architect's workshop, and travel to the natural elements that inspired his work.
Have you ever imagined having the possibility of designing your own Gaudian "trencadís" - a type of mosaic used in Catalan modernism? There is a workshop for children making it come true. "Tomorrow come soon, we will do very nice things," Gaudí said. The most universal son of Reus would never have imagined that his phrase would be so adequate to attract the curiosity of the little ones to the Gaudí Center.
