MASÍA BLANCA, THE CORAL BARRIER OF THE COSTA DAURADA

Masia BlancaMasia Blanca
VENDRELL, EL

This TripIdea begins below sea level, between 4 and 16 meters deep on the coast of  El Vendrell. We propose you to dive into one of the country's richest marine reserves, Masía Blanca, on a snorkeling trip. Get ready to immerse yourself today!

The sandy beach next to the la riera (dry creek bed) of the Masía Blanca is already a good attraction, with its dunes created by the action of the wind. But if you put on the flippers, glasses and the tube and you throw yourself into the water you will discover a new world. The marine reserve is made up of coral communities’ perpendicular to the coast and large meadows of oceanic posidonia (an alga endemic to the Mediterranean).

A great biological diversity is hidden: species of invertebrates like octopuses, sepia, or vertebrates like groupers, gilt-head beam…

When you float with these views of the bottom of the sea you immediately realize how little we know the marine half of our planet. In the Tourism Office of El Vendrell they organize an  auquatic classroom that will serve as an introduction to the reserve and will guide you to the most spectacular part with all the snorkel equipment included. Children are welcome if they are accompanied and can swim.

MUSIC CLOSE TO THE POPULATION IN THE CITY OF PAU CASALS

Surely the most universal musician who has ever given Catalonia is a cellist turned into icon of the message of peace. Pau Casals was born in El Vendrell in 1876 and here his remains rest after an unparalleled civic and musical contribution. Before exiling, he lived and composed in this municipality of the Costa Daurada (Costa Daurada) with the aim of bringing music to all social classes.

Today the legacy of Casalsis still alive in a city that does not miss the chance to honor it. Thus, throughout the year there are concerts in the Auditorium that bears his name, and especially in summer, when the Music Week (in June), the Pau Casals International Music Festival (in July and August), and The concerts in the Gardens of the Museum Deu are planned.

Since 1988, in addition, every Wednesday of the month of August traditional music groups make the Plaza Nueva Square vibrate with outdoor concerts that can serve you to complete a visit to the town. Without a doubt, El Vendrell is an obligatory stop on the  Landscape of the Geniuses Route, which runs along the Costa Daurada (Golden Coast) and the Tierras del Ebro region, stepping on the stages of Joan Miró, Antoni Gaudí, Pablo Picasso and Pau Casals.

VINEGAR WITH DENOMINATION OF ORIGIN

Perhaps you think that you have to dress your stay in the Baix Penedès a little bit up? Well perfect! Because the enotouristic visit that we are proposing will surely satisfy you. The Augustus Forum Winery of El Vendrell not only produces high quality wines but also vinegar with solera (vintage). You will be able to taste both products in a visit to this small and cozy wine cellar in the Mediterranean.

Do you think that you are able to distinguish between a vinegar made with a cabernet sauvignon variety, another made with chardonnay or with merlot? The sweet and sour vinegar made in this winery -attention- is served at the Nobel Prize dinner in Stockholm and is present at the best tables in the world. Chefs like Carme Ruscalleda, Joan Roca from El Celler de Can Roca or Juan Mari Arzak use it for their unique formula. Even the master pastry chef Enric Rovira made some chocolates with this vinegar!

Step into the bittersweet universe of the Costa Daurada (Golden Coast) vinegar and apply it to your homemade recipes!
