JOURNEY TO THE LAND OF THE IBEROS IN CALAFELL

CALAFELL

Calafell is a good place to spend a quiet holiday or even a rest period in your life. This was already clear to the people of these lands a few millennia ago. Here was one of the main Iberian settlements of the peninsula around 500 b.C. They belonged to the tribe of the cosetanos, today honored every summer in the festival Ibercalafell, the Festival of the Iberian Land. It discloses the world of the Iberians between children and adults and is celebrated during the first half of August.

One of the activities of the festival proposes to look for in the forest any element that can be turned into painting to design your own Iberian dress. In the old center, representations of the time are made while in the Iberian Citadel, on the outskirts of the town, most of the workshops are done: bread making, coin minting, the oldest trades of these lands, informative talks ... The festival closes with a night of fire, an everyday element of the Iberians and at the same time an omnipresent element in the rituals of this civilization.

WITH THE FAMILY ON BOBERÓN BEACH IN CALAFELL

The size, the length and the unbeatable conditions of the beach of Calafell make it one of the most appreciated of the Costa Daurada (Golden Coast). The quality of sand and water, the usual calm of the sea and the smoothness of the slope at the entrance to the sea has always had a good name among families. In fact, the 5 kilometers of Calafell coast have been often called "playa del biberón" (Feeding Bottle Beach). In addition, in summer time, the beaches offer activities for the children. You can enjoy inflatables in the water, rent a skateboard for a family trip - the father, by the way, has the right to abandon the hard task of pedals! - you can rent bikes for hours, or enjoy a water park. And attention, parents, if you carry some coin in your pocket, you shall spend in at the candy kiosk!

ARROSSEJAT’, THE SUBLIMATION OF NOODLES AND MONKFISH AT THE COSTA DAURADA

For more than 30 years, the gastronomy of Calafell has in June an appointment worth knowing. On Saturday (usually the second Saturday of June) the traditional popular 'arrossejat' of Calafell, is a multitudinous call with this local dish of the seafaring cuisine of the Costa Daurada (Golden Coast) as the star. For a few years, it has been used as a starting point for Arrossejat's Gastronomic Fortnight, the excuse with which the main restorers of the municipality have joined forces to cook this delicay that elevates the noodles - or the rice - and the monkfish to the maximum expression.

In fact, the 'arrossejat' is not a dish, but two! The first with the rice or the blond noodles must be accompanied by monkfish with potatoes. The rock fish soup that serves as the base is the best kept secret of every chef! The 'arrossejat' is in fact a recipe of humble origin when farmers traded potatoes for monkfish to fishermen. Taste Calafell on the palate!
