5. WITH THE BIKE THROUGH A RURAL UNIVERSE
Route description
We start from the tourist office of Espluga de Francolíand climb the parallel walk to the Francolí river. The idea is to head for the vineyards surrounding Milmanda Castle. On this section, we will head towards the GR 171 Trail. The castle is on the right side of the road towards the Torrents hermitage. This trail crosses a beautiful pine forest until you reach the mentioned hermitage. We will cross the ravine in front of the hermitage to reach the road to Vimbodí i Poblet. We follow the road on the right until we find the Camí de la Palanca. Crossing the Milans river, we begin the ascent to Vimbodí i Poblet. To return to l'Espluga de Francolí, we leave the village on the way to La Palanca and cross the Milans river. The path smoothly climbs up to the junction with the road at Torrents Hermitage. We continue to the right on a track that follows the Torrents ravine. We follow the track between fields and river bank vegetation until we find a bifurcation to the left. Once we reach a small hill with good views, we find the road TV 7002 to Vimbodí i Poblet. We cross the road and continue along the track until Els Plans de Milmanda. After another hill you can see a very beautiful view of the Prades mountains, the farmhouses, the Poblet Monastery and the vineyards. We continue along a track following Sec River from where we will arrive at L'Espluga de Francolí.

Points of interest: The Poblet Monastery, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, has maintained its essence since its foundation in 1150. We recommend a guided tour, as it will allow you to get in touch with the architectural elements, the monastic activity that is practiced and the natural environment of the temple. Embedded in the Cistercian route, this is a very special area for reflection and spiritual recollection, as well as to know the history of Catalonia in the museum located in the royal palace chambers.

Milmanda Castle
The Milmanda Castle is the nerve centre of the properties of the Torres family in the region. The visit includes the projection of a video explaining the facility and its long history. Afterwards, you climb the tribute tower, which allows you to enjoy spectacular views. Since its opening to the public in 2000, a wide variety of proposals has been created, including wine tastings, aperitifs and night tasting on the tribute tower.
