Beaches and Coves COASTAL TRAILS AND ROUTE PROPOSALS
1. SALOU, THE SEA AT YOUR FINGERTIPS
Route description
This stretch of GR92, remodeled relatively recently, is one of the most emblematic routes of the Costa Daurada (Golden Coast). You do not have to be a trekking expert to complete it successfully! It is very affordable for families who want to spend a Sunday outdoors, couples who want to see a romantic sunset facing the sea, or groups of friends who want to do a little bit of exercise without giving up the tranquility and take some photos of the beautiful views of Cape Salou. In total, just over 5 kilometres from the Pilons area, in the heart of the tourist area, to Replanells, on Cape Salou. The Walk unveils different panoramic views: from Pilons, the path heads south and passes Els Capellans beach, on which you can see the remains of the old leper hospital, built in 1829. On this section you will enjoy a walkway over the sea. Do you feel the vertigo? The route continues passing Llenguadets Cove, from where you can observe the bunkers built during the Spanish Civil War. If you close your eyes, you can see this same landscape in black and white, inhabited by ancient fishermen, with only the noise and sirens of the boats approaching the coast. It is easy to imagine how ships and boats made an obligatory stop in Salou, one of the busiest ports on the Catalan coast. The last section corresponds to Platja Llarga beach, beautiful and virgin like none else. Although the road reaches a maximum height of 77 meters above sea level, with stretches having a little difficulty, most of it is practicable for everybody.
Route type: Circular route
Point of departure: Pilons Area
Point of arrival: Replanells (Cape Salou)
Difficulty: low
Distance: 5.5 km
Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Points of interest: During the tour, you will find the famous Silla del Rey Jaume
(Seat of King Jaume), a group of rocks near the sea that tradition and popular wit have transformed into a kind of very unique monument. Immediately after this spot are the remains of a historic construction: the old leper hospital, a building where formerly isolated vessels coming from epidemic areas were banned; the building retains solid, several meters high walls. Cape Salou is an ideal place to observe seabirds with the help of a small telescope. Enjoy it!
Do you want your day to be complete?
A walk to the lighthouse
Lighthouses are one of the most charming constructions of our coasts. Their function of guiding the boats at night gives them a unique romantic air. This central red tower still illuminates today the Gulf of Sant Jordi.
A toast or a dinner in an exclusive place
At the Lumine beach Club you can enjoy a delicious menu in the moonlight, after a relaxing bath in its luxurious pool. In addition, if you are a golf lover, this Mediterranean resort offers you one of the best greens in the area.
A geyser of light and color
Cybernetic fountains are one of the attractions of Salou. Located on Passeig Jaume I, the fountains represent a total of 1000 jets and geysers next to a labyrinth of water through which you can walk. The show is completed with a great fountain including light and images. A unique moment to complete the aesthetic pleasure with a tasty artisan ice cream!
