Put on a good footwear, get some water and announce to your children that they are about to hear angels sing. What a thrill! This TripIdea has its base camp in Mont-roig, the beautiful town of the Costa Daurada (Golden Coast), where the painter Joan Miró lived for a while.

The attractions of this place are very diverse, but today we will undertake an excursion that is worth it. We highlight, for starters, one of the most valued trekking routes in these lands of the Costa Daurada (Golden Coast).

THE VIRGIN CHALLENGING THE HEIGHTS

This one we propose is an excursion that can be done in an hour and a half. With a certain slope, but affordable for all ages. From the center of Mont-roig you have to take the old road from the hermitage - anyone from the village can tell you - in the direction of the Areny mountain. If the kids are reluctant because today they have to walk, you have a good hook to make them parade. On the first stretch of the road is the so-called `Stone of the Angels´, where the children were once told that angels could be heard as they sang. Don´t you hear a sweet voice singing?

And from the angels to the devil. Step by step, you will soon find yourself in front of the Escales del Diable (The Devils. Staircase), allowing access to the top of the mountain. At the top - it seems impossible that they remain on foot – you will see the Mare de Déu de la Roca and the Sant Ramon Hermitages, located on this cut of red rock of 292 meters height. Now you have an idea of why the town is called Mont-roig (Red Mountain)? The views from the top are spectacular, in the morning, afternoon and night. Some people especially enjoy watching from here above as the sun slowly sets. Here, as it could not be otherwise, Joan Miró found a place of inspiration to make his paintings. This place is also known as the lighthouse of the sailors of Mont-Roig, how ths route is called by the tourist office. Without a doubt its height can very well serve today to orient those that are in the sea.

BY BICYCLE ON THE COSTA DAURADA (GOLDEN COAST)

You can tour more than 650 kilometers on the roads of the Southern part of the Baix Camp if your favorite activity is the road bike. The most affordable, which can be made with children, is the one that linking Cambrils, Miami Playa and Mont-roig. A circular route of 33 kilometers in total that will take you on quiet roads and asphalted trails. You can taste the coastal and interior landscape at the same time, since you can also travel along the bike path of the Cambrils Walk.

If you are looking for a more demanding route, here are other recommended routes that can take you to an intense day of road cycling through the Sierra de Llaberia mountains, L'Hospitalet de l'Infant or even Falset - routes from 30 to 157 kilometers. Now, if you prefer to ride in a circuit, there is also the possibility to do it in the municipal velodrome of Mont-roig, where you can clock with accuracy and without having to worry about cars and crossings.
