TARRAGONA

The Roman Empire has not yet fallen. Its bastion in the 21st century is Tarragona and gives the impression that the emperor Augustus still rules. The Amphitheater, the Circus, the walls, the Praetorium, the Aqueduct, the Forum and the town hall live the excitement of the most glorious days of Tarraco. Welcome to the Tarragona Historia Viva of the Costa Daurada (Golden Coast), a summer proposal of historical recreation that transports you with the whole family to the life of more than 2000 years in these lands

It is especially on weekends, from mid-July to September, when Tarragona revives its Roman splendor in the ruins that are scattered throughout the city as a stage. You will become a legionnaire, you have to manage to discover the Roman enigmas hidden in the monuments, you will attend the murder of Caesar and the representation of the marionettes of Marco Antonio and Cleopatra, you will taste the best Roman recipes ... All this in a complete program to learn with the family or friends as life was in the second most important city of the Roman Empire, Tarraco.

THE ART OF FIRE, LIGHT AND NOISE IN THE TARRACONIAN SKY

To make an exclamation vis-à-vis a spectacular fireworks is inevitable. The "oooooohhh!" of the thousands of visitors who come to Tarragona to enjoy the Fireworks Competition in the city are the simplest but most obvious expression that is best not to miss. That's why this is a TripIdea that we do not want you to miss.

It is now quarter of a century that this events illuminates the sky of the Costa Daurada (Costa Daurada) and that makes many natives already experts in judging the quality of the participants, and the color, rhythm and sonority of their fireworks. Catalan pyrotechnics and from around the world compete for the public´s admiration and the prize in every edition of the contest.

If you come to see the fires from the Passeig Marítim promenade, the show is guaranteed: the fires are fired from Punta del Miracle and almost all the companies bet on shooting also from the sea. You will only need a little bit of luck so that there is no wind from the sea and the smoke hides the explosion of the firecrackers in the sky. A good way to enjoy the fires is at some of the restaurants on the promenade. Most mount tables or extend the terrace to offer a dinner accompanied with fireworks. The contest is usually celebrated every year around the first week of July. And the winning pyrotechnics is also the protagonist of the night of fires of the festivities of Santa Tecla

SANT MAGÍ, THE MAJOR SUMMER FESTIVITY OF THE COSTA DAURADA (GOLDEN COAST)

The Plaza de la Fuente Square, the Camp de Mart, the Plaza del Rey Square are full of people.  And in the middle of August, the biggest summer festival in Tarragona, Sant Magí, is committed to water and refreshing activities. Like the watermelon party, a three-day party with crazy proposals around the watermelon. Or the water war, where averybody who does not come in a bathing suit ends up lamenting. Or also the Verbena Remojada, with the performance of disc jockeys and shows created by local companies ...

The legend has it that St. Magi miraculously sprouted the water of a few rocks with three blows with the cane. Still today, during the festivals, Tarragona receives with a great procession the water of the Sant Magí de Brufaganya sources. And the water becomes omnipresent in all the elements of the great feast.

Will you miss the most watered festival of this country in the middle of August?
