Joan Roquer i Marí and Candelaria Negravernis were so enamoured of the caliphate architecture they saw on their honeymoon in Andalusia that they decided to reproduce it in their hometown of L'Arboç. Between 1877 and 1889 they built replicas of Seville’s Giralda (1:2 scale), the Courtyard of the Lions from the Alhambra in Granada and the Ambassadors Hall in the Alcazar of Seville.
