Beaches and Coves Beaches
Platja de la Pixerota
La Pixerota Beach in Mont-roig del Camp i Miami Platja is a semi-urban beach in natural surroundings. Located between the mouths of the Riera de Riudecanyes gulley and the Llastres River, its northern end borders the neighbouring resort of Cambrils. The beach offers magnificent views of the Gulf of Sant Jordi, the main gateway to the southern Catalan coast of the Costa Daurada, which begins at the Coll de Balaguer Pass, in the south of Baix Camp County and extends to Cape Tortosa on Buda Island.
Almost a kilometre long (990 metres), La Pixerota combines fine, golden sand with gravel. It was the favourite beach of the illustrious painter Joan Miró, who liked to go down to it from his farmhouse to swim and exercise. It was also where he drew his well-known Mironian stars that would later become one of the most representative symbols of his work.
Another of the singularities of La Pixerota Beach are the Spanish Civil War bunkers in the middle part of the beach. They are part of the town's cultural heritage and interesting to see. They are very photogenic and also offer fabulous panoramic views of the Gulf de Sant Jordi.
On La Pixerota Point, adjacent to Miami Platja, there is a rocky area that delights spearfishing enthusiasts, as well as a sandy bank where octopuses are usually caught.
