Calafell Beach, in the north of the Costa Daurada, is more than 1,100 metres long. It forms part of the municipality’s five uninterrupted kilometres of beach that make its seafront practically unique in Catalonia. With its fine sands that slope gently into the crystal-clear warm calm waters of the Mediterranean, it is ideal for families. In fact, it used to be known as "the baby bottle beach", because its shallow waters attracted so many families with small children.

In addition, its waters have medicinal and therapeutic properties, since they have a concentration of iodine five times higher than normal in the sea. Together with the adjoining San Salvador Beach in El Vendrell, Calafell Beach shared the space occupied by the Sant Joan de Déu Maritime Sanatorium between 1926 and 1968 that cured patients of tuberculosis thanks to this gift of nature.

The excellent cleanliness and quality of Calafell Beach is testified to by the Blue Flag and the ISO 14001 and Q for Quality certifications. The numerous entertainment, sports and nautical activities it offers include catamaran, monocoque and dinghy sailing, kayaking, banana boat, jet skis, fly boards, and sailing holidays and courses. You can also rent sun loungers and parasols, there are adapted concrete walkways with accessible showers, assisted bathing with amphibious wheelchairs, a lifeguard and first aid post, a children's playground and much more.

During the summer, Calafell’s beaches offer exhibitions of the Bot Salvavides, an unsinkable lifeboat with a unique construction that makes its right itself when it capsizes. Restored in 1989, the Bot Salvavides is brought out every year on June 29, July 16, August 15 and September 11. The town’s beaches are also home to the Llaguts de Calafell and the Vogadors de Calafell, two associations that promote the practice of fixed seat rowing using the Catalan llagut or catboat, and the Patí Català Calafell Association that organises various cultural, sports and social activities.

Calafell is categorised by the Catalan Tourism Agency as a Family Tourism destination, a designation that distinguishes holiday resorts with a certified range of accommodation, restaurants and leisure establishments designed specifically with children in mind.
