Enjoy a magic route round 5 places in Priorat that will steal your heard surrounded by vineyards and olive trees, ideal to be discovered by the entire family. We start in Poboleda, one of the DOQ Priorat villages where wineries beautifully blend both Grenache and Carignan grape varieties. This creation resulted in a golden age that allowed the construction of the various manor houses found in Carrer Major and the church which, thanks to its dimensions, is known as the Cathedral of Priorat.
La Vilella Baixa, just by the Montsant mountains, is known as Priorat’s New York due to the notable height of the houses when seen from the river and the steep streets. Packed with DOQ Priorat vines, it also has a sort of “younger” sister, but located at a higher altitude, known as La Vilella Alta. Make sure you visit it!
We are now in Cabacés, internationally known thanks to the high-quality extra virgin olive oil it produces which, as part of the DOP Siurana label, keeps being awarded with more and more prizes and recognitions. Cabacés does also have a net of rural paths, surrounded by olive trees, you can get to discover with the whole family.
La Bisbal de Falset, which will soon be known as La Bisbal del Priorat, has a little historical treasure known as the Santa Llúcia hermitage. Inside this beautiful cave, find a spring of potable water that, legend says, has curative power for eye diseases, which explains why it is named after Santa Llúcia, patron of the blind and visually impaired. Besides, this cave became an improvised field hospital for republican troupes during the Spanish Civil War. Did you know this hospital hosted 80 beds at one point?
Our last destination is Margalef, international reference for climbing lovers, with an extraordinary range of climbing routes for all levels. Margalef, however, offers another jewel: the Sant Salvador hermitage, where you can stop by for a quick bite thanks to an existing picnic area, a starting point for some amazing trekking routes. Did you know that the bell of this hermitage was damaged during the Spanish Civil War and was then rebuilt by melting an actual bomb?
